We’re a small, locally owned roofing crew based in Billings — roofing, gutters, siding, and storm work, year-round. We hire slow, we keep people for years, and we’d rather wait six months for the right person than train someone we knew on day one was going to leave. If that sounds like the shop for you, we want to hear from you.
Our shop has stayed small on purpose. Every person on a Yellowstone Roofing job is on our payroll. The owner is on the trucks and in the office, the crew works together job after job, and homeowners see the same faces on day two that they met on day one. We don’t have a revolving door because we don’t run the shop that way — a lot of our crew has worked together for the better part of a decade.
We hire when we genuinely need someone, not because some growth chart says we should. Most years we don’t hire at all. When we do, we move slow on purpose — we’d rather miss the right person than rush the wrong one onto the trucks.
How to Apply
Medical and dental for the crew member, with family coverage available at cost. Coverage kicks in after the introductory period — details on the call, no fine print.
Safety refresher every year on the clock. Manufacturer and trade certifications paid for if you stick with it — we run GAF, IKO, and Malarkey systems. Fall arrest gear and ladder safety on us.
We don’t lay off when the snow flies. Cold-weather installs are part of roofing in Montana — repairs, inspections, and storm work fill in when tear-offs slow down, and the schedule stays full.
The owner is on the trucks and in the office. No corporate, no regional manager, no “let me check with my supervisor.” If you’ve got a problem, you say it to the person who can fix it.
W-2, paid weekly, on time, every time. Performance bonus at year-end when the books are good. No “1099 to make the paperwork easier” nonsense.
You don’t buy your own ladder, your own scaffold, or your own gas. Company truck home most days if you’re the crew lead on a multi-day job.
Show up when you say you’ll show up. Call if you can’t. We’ve had crew members on the trucks for years because they’ve never made us guess.
You don’t need to be a roofer on day one. You do need to want to learn it. Our lead hands train every new hire from the ground up on shingles, flashing, and tear-off.
Two- and three-story roofs are normal, and so are cold mornings and windy afternoons. If a ladder past the second floor or a December install is a hard no for you, this isn’t the right shop. We don’t pretend otherwise.
Clean license, no suspensions in the last three years. Insurance won’t put you on a company truck otherwise. CDL not required.
You’ll be on someone’s driveway and on their roof. You don’t need to be a salesperson — you do need to be the kind of person homeowners are comfortable having around the house.
A magnet sweep of the driveway at the end of the job. Drop cloth where it needs to be. Flashing tight where the roof meets the wall. The small stuff is most of the job.
Honest answer: usually no. We hire maybe one or two people every few years. We keep this page up because when we do need someone, we want the right person to already know we exist — not to be scrambling for resumes the week we need to fill the seat. If you’re the right fit, send the note anyway. We hold onto the good ones.
Yes. Most of our crew came in without industry-specific experience — some came from landscaping, some from general construction, some from totally unrelated work. Roughly six months under a lead before you solo a job. If you’ve worked in a trade and the work ethic is there, that matters more than a resume that says “roofing.”
No. The schedule and the office run locally out of Billings, and every estimate gets walked in person. There is no version of this job that doesn’t involve being on a roof or on a driveway, and there is no remote office job to apply for. If a future office position opens up, it’ll be posted here.
We don’t publish a number because it depends on what you bring in the door. New hires without trade experience start hourly. Experienced installers and certified pros start higher and on a salary track. Year-end performance bonus on top in good years. Tell us your experience and your number when you reach out and we’ll have a straight conversation about it.
Yes — especially. Certified, experienced roofers are rare. If you’ve been at another shop and want a smaller, slower, less corporate place to land, send us your background. If we don’t have a spot today, we’ll keep your information on file and reach out when one opens.
A real person on the team reads everything that lands here. No application portal, no resume parser, no automated screener — just an inbox.
